Last month, we ventured into the heart of York, revisiting one of our oldest establishments – our city centre store at Coppergate. A beacon of our legacy, this store dates back to 1984, when it first opened its doors just around the corner at Piccadilly. Welcomed with open arms by Store Manager Bev, we took a tour of their latest stock, before sitting down to talk through some footwear favourites.
Bev: Store Manager
Bev has been at the store for the past 18 months and has taken the store from strength to strength, with this past year being their most successful to date.
Q. Can you talk us through a couple of your best-selling products?
Of course! Firstly, I’d pick the Skechers Arch Fit range. It’s great because it’s machine washable and obviously it also has that inbuilt arch support. I’ve had customers come in and as soon as they’ve tried these shoes on, they’ve realised how much it helps their knees and backs all fall into line (and I can truly vouch for this, as my husband is a podiatrist!)
Another favourite of mine are these Bugatti leather lace-ups. Bugatti was founded in Germany, so you know the leather is going to be superb quality. We get a lot of gents coming in looking for shoes for weddings, races, and stag-dos! These are always a firm favourite.
Q. Let’s do something fun, what is your favourite thing about working for Pavers?
Our lovely customers! It’s so rewarding chatting to customers, understanding what they really need, and then finding them footwear that they love. That’s a particular highlight of this job in general, meeting new people from all over, especially people who are visiting York on holiday – you never know who you’ll end up chatting to!
Q. Finally, if you had to sum up Pavers in three words, what would they be?
Friendly, inviting, good value for money.

Q. What is the best thing about working for Pavers?
My team. Meeting managers and working alongside store managers to get the best out of their shops.
Q. How would you sum up Pavers in three words?
Friendly, teamwork, positive.
Q. Finally, what’s your all-time favourite product?
These lace-up ankle boots from Belissimo are my all-time favourite shoes. I wear them every day for work, they’re super comfy, and I can wear them with everything.

What’s caught your eye in-store today?
I like these floral boots, plus these wide-fit boots with the knitted ankle cuff, they’re great for when you need to be on your feet all day.
Q. Finally, let’s round things up with your favourite thing about working for Pavers?
Well, I’ve got the best manager! She’s very fair and fun to work with. I also love helping elderly customers find comfortable footwear.
